  • This report presents oral cancer data for England held by the National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service (NCRAS) and includes incidence, survival and mortality rates. It covers the period from 2012 to 2016, and the data is presented at national, regional, upper-tier and lower-tier local authority level.
  • Stark inequalities in oral cancer exist between geographic areas and population groups, and there are opportunities to prevent oral cancer and to support early detection and treatment. The data in this report identifies the geographic areas and population groups most at risk to facilitate the planning of health improvement initiatives and clinical services.

  • Tele-orthopaedics is widely acknowledged for decreasing travel, time and cost, increasing accessibility and quality of care. 
  • A systematic mapping to identify and classify the tele-orthopaedic applications and services concludes that telemonitoring (teleconsultation and telemetry) and telesurgery (telerobotics and telementoring) were found to be the two major forms of tele-orthopaedics. Mobile phones were used asynchronously in most of the teleconsultations. The development of different applications may result in the use of multiple smartphones applications in real-time teleconsultation.

  • Only hospitals with a neuroscience centre can meet the requirements for a thrombectomy service and so the hospitals delivering the service will need to cover a wide geographical catchment.
  • The Clinical Senate reviewed the requirements for safe and effective delivery of a thrombectomy service across a wider geography and looked ahead to the potential delivery of a 24/7 service and the implications for the service in the interim. This report aims to understand the issues from the different perspectives of the local trusts, the hyper-acute stroke unit and the patients and their families.
