- RM Partners is piloting RAPID (Rapid Assessment Prostate Imaging and Diagnosis) which provides a ‘one stop shop’ for men with suspected prostate cancer.
- Under this pathway men undergo a multi-parametric MRI (mp-MRI) in the first diagnostic stage. Between a 33% and 40% of patients who have an mpMRI scan will find out on the same day that they do not have prostate cancer and avoid having a biopsy.
- Those who require further investigation are offered a transperineal FUSION biopsy. This technology can reduce the number of samples necessary to make a diagnosis and significantly reduces the risk of sepsis and other complications.
- The pathway is being piloted at Charing Cross Hospital, Epsom Hospital and St George’s@Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton.
