Impact of Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment on postoperative outcomes

Comprehensive geriatric assessment for older people admitted to a surgical service.
Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews 2018, Issue 1. Art. No.: CD012485.
  • A review of trials of the effectiveness of CGA interventions on the postoperative outcomes of older people admitted to hospital for surgical care identified eight RCTs, seven recruited people recovering from a hip fracture (N = 1583) and one elective surgical oncology trial (N = 260).
  • Analysis indicated that older people who received CGA probably have lower risk of dying, and that after discharge, were more likely to return to the same location they lived in before hospital admission. Older people who received the intervention probably stayed in hospital for fewer days.
